The daily care of your natural stone Bench tops is a relatively simple task.  Granite & Marble can be cleaned  (general spills) by utilizing a 5 liters of warm water (as warm as your hands can stand) and 2-3 drops of a non-detergent, pH neutral, dish soap such as Stone Kleen to wipe down the Bench tops.  We recommend Stone Kleen only becaue it is made without animal fats and free of dyes.  Just soak your rag in this  solution and proceed to wipe down your benchtops much like you would any other surface area.  For persistent food build-up, soak the rag in the warm water/cleaner and apply to the surface area where the build-up occurs.  Leave in place for approximately 10 minutes and continue to wipe down as described previously.  Remember to avoid cleaners that contain ammonia (i.e. Windex), other harsh chemicals high in acid or alkaline, or those that are abrasive.  These cleaners could etch the surface shine causing a dull appearance and erode the sealer.  Some stone cleaners have petroleum or animal fat base, which may alter the appearance of your stone, so be cautious when choosing products to use.  Bleach can be used as a sanitizing agent with a 1 to 1 ratio of bleach and warm water.

In order to maintain stain resistance in your natural stone benchtops  it will be necessary to periodically apply sealer to your counter tops.  Re-seal Granite and Marble at least once a year or every 6 months if it gets a lot of use.  Sealing granite and marble creates a nonporous layer on the surface, which protects the naturally porous stone, and will help prevent stains.  Natural stone sealing products can be found at local hardware stores or at Milestone Benchtops showroom with instructions for use.
